3. Description

25 words

Kerma, 1700 BCE. You are Shabaka, 13, the bowmaker's grandson. Build a real composite bow, defend the African city of gold. Every fact sourced.

50 words

Before Egypt's shadow fell, the African kingdom of Kerma ruled the Nile. You are Prince Shabaka, 13, grandson of the royal bowmaker. Craft a real composite bow layer by layer, learn from a living Bronze Age city, and hold the wall against invasion — in a story where every claim is sourced like a textbook.

100 words

Prince Shabaka of Kerma in the Land of the Bow is a story-rich historical adventure set in 1700 BCE Kerma — the city of gold, first great kingdom on the Nile, home of the ancient world's most feared archers. As Shabaka, 13, crown prince and the royal bowmaker's grandson, you build your own composite bow — wood, horn, sinew — learn from the fisherman, the scribe, and the Medjay scout, then face a siege you can genuinely lose. Inside the adventure is a rigorous, fully sourced STEM and African history curriculum: physics, materials science, math, and the real story of Kush — no worksheets, everything learned by doing. Three endings. Made by one Black dad and developer.

4. Key Features

5. The Story (Founder Statement)

I'm one Black dad and developer, and I built this game because I got tired of history that starts in 1619.

Seven and a half thousand years ago, in the green Sahara, African astronomers built the world's first observatory and calculated the rains. Their descendants built Kerma — the city of gold, the first great kingdom on the Nile, home of the most feared archers of the ancient world. Kush would go on to build more pyramids than Egypt and produce a queen who fought Rome to a treaty. Almost none of that is in the textbooks my kids were handed.

So I made it playable. SAH looks and plays like the adventure game it is — you build a bow, you walk a city, you hold a wall — but inside it is a curriculum sourced like a textbook, because facts this strong don't need inflation. My rule for every frame: strong, smart, capable people of African descent, finally the heroes of their own story. I want a kid to finish this game knowing their ancestors did it — so they know they can too.

6. Pull-Quotes

"The history your textbooks skipped — playable."
"It looks like a high-end indie adventure game. Inside is a rigorous STEM and pre-enslavement African history curriculum. It's a Trojan horse, and I'm proud of that."
"Everything you learn, you learn by doing — your care at the bow bench becomes your power on the wall."
"I got tired of history starting in 1619, so I built a game where kids learn 8th-grade physics by building Bronze Age African technology."
"No ads, no accounts, no data collection. Kid-safe isn't a policy here — it's the architecture."

7. Fact-Check & Credibility Note

SAH is sourced like a textbook. Every historical claim in the game traces to the archaeological record and mainstream scholarship — UNESCO's General History of Africa, peer-reviewed research, and the artifacts themselves — and the in-game Royal Library ends each entry with a "Go look" pointer so players (and journalists) can verify it. Kerma, the Deffufa, Nubian composite-bow craft, the Medjay, Nabta Playa's astronomy, and Amanirenas's war with Rome are all documented history. The studio's full source list is available to press on request ([CONTACT — via Africana.fyi]); a parent/teacher curriculum guide maps every game moment to the concept and source behind it.
